Before You Come

Here is a list of policies that we ask our guests to abide by to ensure a safe and fun experience at Camp Akita. 

  1. Each group must have a primary contact person.

  2. Each group must provide adequate adult supervision for youth.

  3. Personal dress shall conform to standards of modesty at all times.

  4. Cabin bedding must be provided by the camper.

  5. All living quarters must be left clean before leaving the camp.

  6. Any damage done to the facility, equipment, or missing items will be charged to the responsible group or individual.

  7. Accident insurance is not provided.  A certificate of insurance must be provided to the camp prior to scheduled retreat.

  8. Swimming area policies are posted. We expect our guests to follow them while using the swimming area.

  9. All meals served are vegetarian.

  10. Camp fires or cook fires must be arranged for and approved by the camp ranger.

  11. Firearms, fireworks, and smoking are prohibited at all times on the campground.

  12. No alcoholic beverages or non-prescription/non-medicinal drugs should be brought to or consumed at the campground.

  13. No pets are allowed on the campground or inside facilities.  This includes dogs, cats, or other pets.

  14. The camp is not responsible for loss of property due to fire, theft, or weather.

  15. Vehicles brought into camp must be parked in the parking lots provided.

  16. Camp Akita facilities’ Director or his designee may ask any individual to leave the camp should their behavior and/or activities be in violation of camp policies.

DIRECTIONS TO CAMP AKITA:

From Chicagoland: Take I-80 west and exit on Hwy 78 (exit #33). Go south on Hwy 78. South of Kewanee, watch for Hwy 34 to split from Hwy 78. Stay on Hwy 78 (to the left). At Hwy 150 turn right (west). Just up the hill from the Spoon River, turn south on 1800E (County Rd. 11) and go about 2 miles. Watch for sign for Camp Akita on the right. Turn right on gravel road and follow a short distance to Y in the Road. Remain to the left and take road over I-74. Camp entrance is on the left.

From Galesburg: Take I-74 east to exit #54. Take Hwy 150 east to Co. Rd 12. Turn south (right), cross I-74 and go to 1200 N and turn east (left). Follow to camp.

From Peoria: Take I-74 west and exit on Hwy 78. (exit #71) Go north to Hwy 150.  Turn left (west) on Hwy 150 and cross the Spoon River. Just up the hill from the Spoon River, turn south on 1800E (County Rd. 11) and go about 2 miles. Watch for sign for camp on right. Turn right on gravel road and follow a short distance to Y in the Road. Remain to the left and take road over I-74. Camp entrance is on the left.

The camp is approximately 176 miles from the Conference Office in Willowbrook, Illinois.
